The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) on Tuesday convened young professionals in Asaba for a capacity-building session aimed at helping recent graduates transform academic certificates into meaningful careers.
In an increasingly competitive labour market where a university degree no longer guarantees employment, the programme focused on practical tools that employers now prioritise. Organised under the NJFP Talent Hub+, the training covered interview readiness, employer confidence, career preparation, personal development, employability and professional branding.
Lady Diana Eyo-Enoette, Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Sustainable Development Goals, told participants that polished CVs and carefully curated LinkedIn posts are no longer sufficient. “Employers are not looking for brilliant CVs anymore or nice posts on LinkedIn because we know that can be generated by AI. They now look out for competence, communication, character, and consistency,” she said. She offered practical guidance on preparing effective CVs and succeeding in interviews, stressing the need to build genuine competence and confidence.
Life coach Joseph Wise Aderibigbe, speaking on the theme “Ready for Life, Ready for Work,” challenged the fellows to treat readiness as an ongoing process of personal growth rather than a last-minute scramble when a job opportunity appears. He urged them to develop themselves deliberately for the broader demands of both life and work.
Lady Irene David-Arinze, founder of LIDA, trained participants on personal branding and communication, highlighting the importance of maintaining a strong and reputable digital footprint in today’s job market.
NJFP Alumni lead Moyosoluwa Olabisi Oladayo reminded the group of the range of opportunities available through the Talent Hub+ and encouraged them to take full advantage of the resources for both career advancement and entrepreneurship.
The session forms part of NJFP’s continuous support for fellows and alumni through career guidance, skills training, networking and access to professional opportunities. Funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme connects young Nigerian graduates with workplace experience and practical skills, helping them navigate the difficult transition from education to employment.
By emphasising soft skills, character and continuous self-development alongside technical knowledge, the programme seeks to equip a new generation of graduates to compete more effectively and turn their hard-earned certificates into sustainable careers.
