Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has thrown his weight behind calls for security operatives to adopt a tougher stance against armed criminals, declaring that those carrying weapons to terrorise innocent citizens should be shot on sight.
Speaking while addressing security concerns in the country, Oshiomhole argued that Nigeria's worsening insecurity requires decisive action to protect lives and property. He maintained that law enforcement officers should not hesitate to neutralise heavily armed criminals who pose immediate threats to the public.
According to the senator, security personnel should not be expected to risk their lives trying to arrest individuals who are actively attacking communities or confronting officers with dangerous weapons. He said protecting innocent Nigerians must remain the highest priority in the fight against violent crime.

Oshiomhole stressed that criminal gangs responsible for killings, kidnappings, armed robbery and other violent attacks have continued to exploit weaknesses in the country's security system. He noted that stronger operational measures would serve as a deterrent to those involved in such crimes.
The former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress also questioned what he described as excessive sympathy for armed criminals, insisting that law-abiding citizens deserve greater protection from the government than those who choose violence.
His comments come amid renewed national debate over rising cases of banditry, kidnapping and violent attacks across several parts of Nigeria. Security experts and public officials have repeatedly called for improved intelligence gathering, stronger law enforcement and better-equipped security agencies to tackle the growing threat.
While some Nigerians have supported tougher security measures against violent offenders, others continue to emphasise that all security operations must be carried out within the limits of the law and in line with constitutional protections for human rights.
Oshiomhole maintained that restoring public confidence in the nation's security architecture requires firm action against armed criminals, insisting that communities cannot continue to live under constant fear while violent gangs operate with impunity.
