The Federal Government has announced plans to launch a new digital education data platform that will house records of more than 32 million students across the country, marking a major step toward improving data-driven decision-making in Nigeria's education sector.
The initiative, known as the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), is designed to serve as a centralized database for student, teacher, and school records nationwide. Officials say the platform will help address long-standing challenges associated with inaccurate and fragmented education data.
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the system is expected to provide real-time information that will assist policymakers in planning, budgeting, and implementing educational programmes more effectively. The platform will also support efforts to track enrollment figures, monitor learning outcomes, and identify gaps in infrastructure and teacher deployment across different regions of the country.
Education authorities disclosed that over 32 million student records have already been captured on the platform, while thousands of schools have been integrated into the system. The government believes the database will improve transparency and make it easier to assess the performance of various education initiatives.
Officials noted that reliable data remains critical to tackling challenges facing the sector, including out-of-school children, inadequate facilities, and unequal access to quality education.
